1. Para qué fue desarrollado el compendio?

Fue desarrollado con el objetivo de actualizar y expandir la información sobre el gasto energético asociado a diversas actividades físicas que pueden realizar las personas que utilizan sillas de ruedas.

Este trabajo busca abordar la falta de recursos y datos específicos que a menudo excluyen a los usuarios de sillas de ruedas de las pautas generales de actividad física, promoviendo así la inclusión y la salud en esta población.

El compendio sirve como una herramienta esencial para:

  • Establecer pautas: Proporciona un marco para entender el gasto energético en diferentes actividades físicas, específicas para usuarios de sillas de ruedas.
  • Promover la actividad física: Ayuda a fomentar la actividad física regular entre los usuarios, lo cual es crucial para mejorar su salud cardiometabólica y calidad de vida.
  • Guiar a profesionales: Ofrece información útil para médicos, terapeutas y entrenadores al diseñar programas de ejercicio adaptados a las necesidades específicas de los usuarios de sillas de ruedas.

Las ventajas del uso del Compendio incluyen:

A pesar de sus beneficios, el Compendio también presenta ciertas limitaciones:

  • Generalización limitada: Los datos pueden no ser aplicables a todos los grupos dentro de la población de usuarios de sillas de ruedas debido a la diversidad en condiciones médicas y niveles funcionales.
  • Sub-representación: Existe una subrepresentación notable de mujeres y personas mayores en los estudios que sustentan el compendio, lo que puede afectar la aplicabilidad general.
  • Variabilidad en el gasto energético: El gasto energético puede variar considerablemente entre individuos debido a factores como edad, peso, sexo biológico y condición física.
